Class Overview

In study skills, students develop and strengthen their academic and organizational skills. Students explore individual strengths and weaknesses, and learn strategies for success in their academic courses. Topics include time management, reading textbooks, taking notes, highlighting, reviewing notes and material previously covered, preparing for tests, concentration, use of the library and online sources, and managing homework. Students will also work on the Individual Transition Goals (ITPs).

 

Recommended Materials

  • Daily agenda/Student Planner
  • Highlighter pen
  • 2 pencils, erasers
  •    Binder used for other academic classes, with binder paper
  •    Homework and materials from other classes for independent study

 

 

Student Assessment

30% Classroom Participation (includes behavior, attendance, and appropriate use of class study time, rubric provided to students)

30% Study Skills Assignments 

20%  Binder organization

20% Planner

 

Policies & Procedures

  • There will not be regular homework in this class, but there will be assignments such as thinking about how you can improve your study space, or taking notes for another class. Additionally, students will have reading/ITP/writing assignments, in class
  • Maintaining an organized binder is crucial to pass this class. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain missed/required assignments.
