English 12 ERWC

The Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC), is a full-year college preparatory English course for high school seniors taken in place of the traditional British Literature, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate courses. The ERWC aligns with the California Common Core Standards, addresses critical reading and writing problems identified by the CSU English Placement Test Committee, and prepares students to meet the expectations of college and university faculty.

Course assignments, organized into 14 modules and based largely on non-fiction texts, emphasize the in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing.

English 9

This course is a thematic survey of literature focusing on the essential question of how an individual explores his/her role in society and how his/her identity evolves.  It emphasizes critical thinking skills and requires students to draw their own conclusions as they synthesize and apply the knowledge they have gained through their readings and class discussions.  The curriculum includes writing, reading, research, speaking, and listening skills.  This course will also focus on CAHSEE and SAT test preparation, vocabulary development, information competency and technology skills.
